But how does stain resistant carpeting work, exactly?

Stain-proof carpeting can help a lot, but there are three things to remember:

• Put a scrap of carpet in your trunk, or truck bed when you’re carting around dirty items, or objects that could scratch, or leak all over your vehicle.

• Take a piece of carpet to your campsite.  Set it on the ground outside your trailer or tent.  Then, set your lawn chairs up over it and create an outdoor living room. 

• If you attend outdoor concerts or picnics, place a piece of carpet underneath your blanket.  It will add more cushioning and keep your blanket from getting too wet or dirty.

Have you recently purchased new carpet? Are you planning on installing new carpet?

You probably expect it to wear well and look good for years, right?

You’ve invested money and time, picking the perfect carpet to match your home and lifestyle. 

So, do you know how to prevent voiding your carpet warranty? 

You may have even tried to read the warranty (you know who you are!) and found it confusing … but don’t worry!  The friendly staff at Ann Arbor Carpets – Flooring America is available to answer your questions about your warranty, as well as the care and maintenance of your new carpet. 

Below, we‘ve shared a few general terms for carpet warranties.  Ultimately, it’s very important to read and understand what your warranty specifically covers, because terms differ depending on the manufacturer, and the fiber content and style of your new carpet.

Clean it carefully!

Did you know that if you use a cleaning substance, or a cleaning system that’s not recommended for your carpet, you may void the warranty?  Did you also know that normal foot traffic may require you to have your carpet regularly cleaned by a certified professional, at least once every 18-24 months to maintain warranty coverage?    

Hold onto your receipt!

To qualify for repair or replacement, the original sales receipt or other documentation that demonstrates proof of purchase must be supplied. 

Remember the date!

Your warranty begins from the date of installation and not from the purchase date.  You may want to document the installation date on your receipt.

Not all padding is created equal!

To maintain the warranty, all carpet must be installed over proper cushion that meets the HUD UM 72A, Class 1 standards. 

Don’t roll with it!

Warranties exclude carpet that has been put to abnormal use, or abused in any way.  This includes chairs on wheels, which can tear or severely wear down your carpet.  In addition, carpet that has been damaged by flood, fire, or smoke may also not be covered by the original warranty. 

The one and only original!

Most warranties only apply to the original purchaser and installation site and are not transferable.  However, Five-Star Rated product warranties ARE transferable.

Did you know that you should never scrub a stain?

When you scrub a stain, it will spread the stain out further and potentially damage the carpet fibers.  If you scrub too hard, you will likely push the stain into the carpet pad.  The stain may temporarily disappear, only to reappear later.  So, the key is to gently blot the stain with a clean, white cloth.
