Best Ways To Clean Up After Kids

Do you have small children?

Do you struggle to clean up after them, especially cleaning up your flooring?

Don’t spend hours cleaning or spend too much money to get a professional to clean your floors! Save time and money with our tips on how to take better care of your flooring and cleaning up after kids.

It’s no secret that kids can be messy. Whether it’s spilling foods or drinks, art supplies, or dirty shoes on the carpet, there always seems to be a mess that needs to be cleaned.

Here are some tips on how to keep your flooring looking brand new all throughout your home!

1. Hardwood flooring: One preventive measure to take care of hardwood floors is to put a rug down, especially in a kid’s bedroom or playroom to prevent scratches and scuffs from shoes and toys. Damp mopping the floor is the best way to deep clean. Rinse with a clean mop, being careful to prevent standing water. Dusting on a regular basis can also lengthen the life of your floor.

2. Carpet: Vacuuming several times a week is the easiest way to keep carpets free of dirt and allergens. Keeping heavily traveled areas of carpet covered with throw rugs can also protect those areas from having to be deep cleaned. Cleaning up spills right away before they soak into the carpet is important! Remember: blot the spill with a cloth or paper towel; don’t rub it in!

Another way to protect your floors from arts and crafts messes is to buy washable products, such as washable paints and markers. These messes still need to be cleaned right away, but they’ll come out easier than non-washable materials.

Save Money By Taking Care of Your Floors!

Save money by taking care of your floors

You may have read our money saving tips in our latest article “3 great ways to save money on your new flooring”.

One of those tips is to make sure that you are keeping proper care of your floors, and we’d like to tell you a bit more about that.

Nothing can save you money on flooring in Ann Arbor like making sure your new floor stays clean, well maintained, and looking new.

1. Read Your Warranty!

Reading your warranty is one of the most important things you can do to make sure your floor has the longest life possible. You want to make sure that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions so you don’t do anything damaging to your nice new floor!

Memorizing a manufacturer’s carpet cleaning guidelines might be a little dull, so give us a call and we’ll be more than happy to help you!

2. Be Consistent!

Cleaning your floor “every once in a while” just doesn’t get the job done. It’s important to keep your floor spic and span. You can do this by vacuuming if you have a carpet, and and sweeping, dusting and polishing if you have a hardwood floor.

It’s also important to get your floors professionally cleaned at least yearly, just to make sure you do everything to keep your floors clean, healthy, and well maintained.

3. Clean Up Spills Immediately!

This is another important tip to keep your floors a spot free and undamaged as possible. Make sure you clean up stains immediately and thoroughly. It may not always be possible to get to a stain or spill right when it happens, but trying your best will ensure you keep it as good as it can be.

What New Carpet is Right for Me?

Ann Arbor Carpets | New Flooring Ann Arbor | New Carpet Ann ArborAre you looking for new carpet, but not sure what you want?

Are you checking the pros and cons of each before you buy?

Look no further!

Choosing the type of carpet you want for your home is a major decision. A good carpet can last for decades, and you should be sure about your choice. Carpet comes in a variety of materials, and the material you choose can greatly affect the longevity of your carpet and the look of your home. There are many various materials, but the three most notable ones are Nylon, Wool, and Polyester.

Nylon Carpet

Nylon is by far the most popular option available for carpeting. It is a good all around, and has powerful stain repelling abilities, along with resistance to being pushed down from foot traffic, so you know that your carpet will be around for a long time.

Wool Carpet

Wool is a favorite for people who prefer to “go green.” The all natural elements, along with the softness and durability, are a great combination. It should be noted that wool carpets are a bit higher maintenance than other kinds of carpet. In order to look its best, wool carpet must be professionally cleaned, so wool may not be the choice if you are hoping for a low maintenance floor.

Despite this, wool is still the most popular all natural carpet material, and has a great look and feel. Check out our Just Shorn New Zealand wool carpet here!

Polyester Carpet

Polyester, similar to Nylon, is another great all around choice for your home. It has all the stain resistant qualities of Nylon, with close to the eco-friendliness of Wool, and a relatively low cost as well. It allows for vibrant color, and is a favorite amongst homeowners due to the similarities to Nylon and the great all around quality it has.

Each material has its pros and cons, and every homeowner’s situation is different enough to warrant a look into which carpet suits them best.

New Flooring For Different Rooms?

New Flooring Ann Arbor Carpets Wood FloorAre you looking for new flooring, but not sure what your options are?

Does it seem like there are too many choices to pick the right one?

There are hundreds of different kinds of flooring, and each one is different. Not only that, but flooring isn’t a “one size fits all” for your home, and different rooms require different floors. Would you think of having a carpeted kitchen, or a linoleum bedroom? Your new flooring choice is important!

It may not be the most exciting part of your home design, but the right floor can completely change the look and feel of a room, or even the whole house, and the right floor can last nearly a lifetime.

Kid’s Room?

Carpet is a great option for kids rooms due to the softness and soundproofing ability. It also tends to make a room cozier. One of the most important features of carpeting is the large number of color options! Carpet comes in a variety of vibrant colors, so you can go nuts!

Kids can be messy, so if carpet isn’t the right choice for you, you can choose something that’s more stain resistant or easier to clean!

Guest Room?

Guest rooms should provide a relaxing, comfortable environment, while being attractive to everyone. Carpet is a great choice to make the room feel homier, while hardwood can allow the room to feel classier or even more rustic, if you happen want a lodge style room.

If your guest room is only a guest room some of the time, or if you want to change it to something else later, great! A guest room is only for short visits, so make sure it fits into your long term plan!

Office?

Even if your office is in your home, you want it to look official. Everyone is different, though, so it’s hard to say! Some people think a hard surface feels more like a workspace, whereas some people feel like carpet means business. It’s up to you, and whatever makes you feel comfortable should be your choice!

We have tons of great decorating tips and guides, and Ann Arbor Carpets is full of flooring experts to help you! If you’re interested in learning more about flooring for your home, give us a call! Our number is 734-769-1710, or you can always visit us on the web at AnnArborCarpets.com

3 Reasons to Choose Hardwood Flooring

You may know that hardwood flooring is a favorite for many homeowners, but do you know why? There are plenty of other options available (carpet, tile, vinyl, laminate), but hardwood is a classic that has stood the test of time. So, what has made this option so popular?

There are three main reasons that people love hardwood flooring (besides the look!).

1. Durability

If taken care of correctly, hardwood floors can last a lifetime. Carpet and hardwood alternatives generally can’t stand the test of time as well as hardwood floors, and will need replacing more often. Carpets also stain, which means that even if the carpet’s quality is okay, you may have to replace it just because of how it looks!

2. Value

Hardwood flooring is not only good for the look and feel of your home, it may also be good as an investment. Hardwood Flooring almost always boosts your home’s value, and makes your home much more desirable to potential buyers. Hardwood flooring attracts buyers since it’s easy to add to a decor motif, doesn’t clash with most interiors, and never goes out of style. Hardwood is much easier to clean than carpet.

3. Variety

We have TONS of different kinds of hardwood floors, everything from Oak to Brazilian Cherry. No matter the look, feel, color, or style you want, we probably have what you need. Hardwood comes in more types than most of us can imagine, and we’re certain we can find the right one for you.

If you have any questions about hardwood flooring in Ann Arbor, or if you just want a free bottle of carpet cleaner, feel free to contact us at AnnArbor-FlooringAmerica.com, or call us at 734-769-1710

Stain Resistant Carpets?

How Does It Work? Ann Arbor Carpets Explains.

Stained Carpet? Come to Ann Arbor Carpets!
Don't let your carpet get one of these!
Between kids, pets, and party guests, one of the biggest concerns people have about carpeting is the dreaded stain. Nothing can quite ruin the decor of a room quite like a large red stain in the middle of the floor. People go to great lengths to remove stains, using all sorts of professional cleaning services and around-the-house methods. Since stains are such a major concern for anyone investing in new carpet, stain-resistant carpeting has become almost standard for homes.

But how does stain resistant carpeting work, exactly?

Simple! The carpet comes with a coating on the outside. This coating helps to keep liquids and colors out of its fibers. It stays on for a long time, and helps to keep your carpet looking newer and cleaner.

Stain-proof carpeting can help a lot, but there are three things to remember:

1. No carpet is 100% stain-resistant, but stain resistant carpets can keep out stains better than normal, and can make removing stains easier on the owner.

2. Stains still need to be treated immediately. Stain-resistant doesn’t mean stain-proof! You should still act quickly and follow your warranty instructions for cleaning.

3. The carpet still requires the attention and care of a normal carpet, but it improves your odds of keeping your carpet stain-free. Be wary of using the wrong cleaning product and removing the protective coating! Make sure to read the manufacturer’s guidelines and speak to an expert if you are unsure!
